While visiting Canada in the Fall of 2021, I had the pleasure of providing branding photography for this sweet little company called Hewitson House Simmers. Shoshana (Shosh) Hewitson is the face behind this brilliant small business and also one of my first Canadian friends from my inaugural trip in 2014! She was also on the mission trip where Tuck and I met in 2016, and I was privileged to photograph her wedding a year later! We sat and reminisced on the events in our lives that had led us here. From meeting at a family camp on Manitoulin Island to living on the same continent, married to our best friends, and able to pursue our passions! We feel incredibly blessed. 

 

Based in Dundas, Ontario, Canada, Shosh began making simmers during the holiday season several years ago for her family. She loved how the scents gave an old fashioned, warm feeling to her home. As she began to make simmers as gifts for her friends and family, Shosh discovered a deep passion for natural scents that others could easily enjoy.

The Hewitson House Mission 

Shosh’s family-centric mindset is the “why” behind her work, and I absolutely loved chatting to her about her mission. Smell is such a powerful sense. Shosh is using this to create an environment of warmth and comfort that bring others together. She’s even expanded to create drink mixes and a line of hand-made dog treats!

Did you know?

Research has shown that smells evoke strong memories. Shosh uses this to intentionally creates homely, inclusive environments by connecting old-fashioned scents to moments of togetherness. That, my friends, is sweet and inspiring.
