My name is Cilla Tuckson and I’m a Family and Senior portrait photographer specialising in fine art printed products & album design. As of March 2020 I’m based in Chesapeake, Virginia. I’m brand new to the US and am so excited to serve Families and Seniors in the wider Hampton Roads area.

A little bit about me…

I was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia where most of my family (and Archie, the cutest dog in the world) still resides. My husband grew up here in Chesapeake and we met on a mission trip in the Caribbean in 2016. After a  rollercoaster  long distance relationship and living for 6 months in each other’s countries, we were married in November 2018. And so began a nearly 2  year visa saga. In this time we lived and worked on a mission  in Jamaica for 6 months (if you’re curious, @tucksons_in_jamaica has that story!) before returning to Australia and finally receiving said visa. And here we are.

I’ve been behind a camera in some way, shape or form as long as I can remember. Starting with disposable cameras at the tender age of 5, I officially started photography as a ‘side hustle’ in 2013, alongside my full-time job as a Physiotherapy Assistant. From my humble beginnings 7 years ago, my passion for photography has grown and morphed. Now I focus on Families and Seniors providing heirloom printed products so the images I capture can be enjoyed on the walls of your home every day.

But then it struck me, I was only doing half my job!

In early 2019 I was struck with the realisation  that I wasn’t serving my clients to the best of my ability. Sure, they had stunning images that showcased connection and their family’s story, and the session itself was fantastic, but 2, even 3 years on their images were still hiding on USBs, forgotten in a drawer or buried in a  facebook timeline.

My goal was for clients to enjoy their images everyday, to serve as a constant reminder of what matters most in life, to make them smile on their down days & to give their children a sense of belonging, love and security. 

But I was only doing half my job.

Because while that USB was still in the back of their drawer, none of those things were happening. In effect, I was just adding another job to the to-do list of the amazing Mama’s I served: ‘print images’. And for those Moms and the ‘doers’ out there,  I know you don’t need another thing on your packed to-do list!

So came a revolution to Cilla Tuckson Photography. I now  provide a full service for my clients so there are no feelings of guilt: investing in a session only to do nothing with the images. Instead of handing clients a USB at the end of a session and wishing them luck, I now come into their home and custom design their images into beautiful hanging galleries and albums that match their decor & family style. Using the latest software I show them what their images will look like on their very own walls and step them through the decision making process. All this, so that at the  end they have nothing left to do but enjoy the love and connection of their family on their walls: every day.

This is my passion…

My passion is to serve and inspire – to give you an experience that is as memorable as your photos, one that you’ll be talking about for years to come. An experience that tells your story in a tangible way that can be passed down from generation to generation.

This is my ‘why’ and it’s become even more of a motivating force in my business since I said goodbye to my family and moved halfway across the world. The pictures I have with them hold even more value for me now when we’re oceans apart. I know the same will be true with your family images when your children graduate and life takes you in different directions.
